When you think of Washington wines
that garner 93 point scores from The Wine Spectator, you are
probably imagining the kind of wine that you might splurge on for a
special occasion or a holiday, and yes, there are quite of few of
these in the $70 to $150 range. What is really exciting and
rare is finding wines like these around $30, and we found not just
one, but three of them for you.
On a recent five day business
trip to the Walla Walla Valley, I tried a lot of wines at very
different price ranges. Yes, most of the very expensive ones
were very good, but here are some examples that excellent wine
doesn't always have to be expensive. Case in point: The
excellent Leonetti 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon got 93 points, as did
the 2007 Leonetti Reserve, so the same score from the same reviewer
as the two Cabernet Sauvignons featured here. But the
Leonettis are $100 and $160 and our two Cabernets are around
$30.-. I would call that value.
